Residency
The Lorca has always been an informal place for art and culture. In the past year, we’ve begun to offer two residency options: weeklong fall and spring group visits and ad hoc individual stays.
Our program is simple. There are no requirements. Have the space for yourself, as a reading room or hiking base, at rest, or in your practice.
The application is brief. With you, we’ll continue to build a space for artists, writers, photographers, and advocates.
While rooms are covered, you’ll need to provide transportation. Please review more details below.

We welcome applications from a range of working artists, across disciplines. We’re hoping to host people who are committed to their practice and communities.

This year, we’ll offer two weeklong group residencies at our Lorca Adirondacks location in Sabael, New York, once in April and once in November. We will attempt to provide additional ad hoc individual residencies in the Adirondacks and Catskills where possible.

Lorca Adirondacks is a reimagined motel with a main lodge. There are eight rooms at the motel. The lodge tends to be rented separately.
We hope to develop a larger shared studio space in the future. At present, work space is limited: the motel rooms, the outdoors, and nearby culture centers are the main places to create.
That said, the surrounding nature is incredible, and includes a 50-mile perimeter lake dotted with ten islands, and incredible mountain hikes.
Here are photos that offer a sense of the property and area.

A car is required to access the property, area necessities, and local attractions. There is no Uber in the area. You may of course share transportation by applying with friends; for those arriving separately, the Trailways Bus reaches nearby towns, e.g., Glens Falls.
